Tutorial: Bracelet removal

Jun 22, 2005 - 06:01 AM Go to previous message

After seeing so many posts on ... ‘how do i remove the bracelet of my watch?’ I thought i'd post a visual guide to it.

Start off with a good hold or position. I normally would hold a watch in my hand and work from there, but its not something that all can/like to do.

The way i have shown here is...

I laid it down on a flat scratch free surface and used an eraser lined up underneath the bracelet to give support and a continious upwards force to stop the pins jumping back into the lug holes. Then with a spring bar removal tool, i push the tip down to remove it from within the lug hole. It should instantly lift up with the releasing of the springbar tip.

The eraser that was underneath the bracelet has helped force the springbar all the way out and not back into the lug hole.

Then we work the other end of the springbar upwards like so...

It should then come completely free of its lug hole position and the bracelet will come completely free of the case/head of your watch.

To put the bracelet back onto the watch just work in reverse, but without the supporting object(eraser in this case)...

1) Line the bracelet semi into its position and then ease the springbar in through the end piece.

2) Work the bottom end of springbar upwards, with downwards force, untill it is within the lug area.
(IT WONT GO STRAIGHT INTO THE LUG HOLE GENERALLY)

3) Trap the bottom end down with your thumb and then work the top end of the spring bar downwards untill the whole bracelet slides into place between the lugs.
(THE SPRINGBAR TIPS ARE NOT IN THE LUG HOLES AND THE BRACELET WILL COME AWAY IF NOT SUPPORTED)

4) Then just work the springbar tips into place.

This process isn't that simple if your trying it for the first time and/or if your trying to hold the bracelet out of the way with the same hand your hold the case with.
(Yes to help with photography, i had to remove one side already)

Remember...
practise makes perfect!
Your only as good as your tools!
Patience is a virtue!

Hope this helps/helped someone.

Mason.
