I have stated in earlier articles I've penned that it seems plausible that both types of Speedmaster likely made it to the moon. But plausibility and fact are not one and the same. What I am agreeing with Chuck on here is that it would be nice to see real evidence on whether the c861 Speedmasters ever made it to the moon. To merely assert it is not sufficient for me as a scientist, and I imagine historians have to wrestle with this problem all the time. The situation we have now is rather interesting. It is STILL NOT TOO LATE to have had the real facts blurred by time. If the proper research is done, we can uncover the truth. Chuck is advocating the search for the truth via some form of documentation and perhaps physical evidence (i.e. a photo). I think this is a great idea. I hope I can find out something. The problem is that the longer we wait, the more blurred things become - and this is how assertions become defacto truth - even of they are wrong!
For me, the Speedmaster holds a special place in history precisely because of its involvement in the space program and I would really like to know which watches made it to the moon.
All the best - and enjoy your collecting.
Aloha,
Gerry
